Sculpture by Christine Paige

The beauty of nature and humanity inspire me. Initially I sculpted figurative pieces in clay, then learned metal skills to create bronze pieces. I am grateful for the outstanding Lane Community College faculty who have mentored me for years.

Along the way my work has become less representational and more abstract, simpler in form but more complex in concept. I’m fascinated with the subtle transitions between forms that repeat in both nature and the human figure.

Carving stone is my current joy; stone’s striations and translucence intrigue me. I create tension between weight and an illusion of lightness, between solid matter and flowing gesture. I’m a member of the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association, a supportive community of talented, dedicated sculptors.

Abstract form invites a conversation that presents more questions than answers. I express emotion in my sculptures, and hope they evoke curiosity or emotion in the viewer.
